Raising Leaders the Sunrise Way: Beyond the Ballot:

At Sunrise C.G. & Junior School, we don’t just teach leadership — we provide platforms for our learners to practice it, live it, and grow through it. Our recently concluded student elections were a powerful testament to this mission, giving our pupils the opportunity to step up, speak out, and serve their community.

Leadership in Action

From campaign posters to manifestos and speeches, the candidates truly showed what it means to lead. They articulated their vision with clarity, courage, and creativity — reminding us that leadership starts with confidence and character.

Each candidate left a mark, whether they won or not. We saw collaboration among peers, respect for the rules, and admirable sportsmanship across the board.

The Day Democracy Came Alive

From the first bell, the school buzzed with excitement. Posters decorated the walls, campaign jingles echoed in the air, and hopeful candidates moved through the crowd with ideas, vision, and courage.

Our pupils turned out in large numbers to vote — patiently, orderly, and purposefully. Just like a national election, there were agents, voters, observers, and returning officers — all played by students with a maturity that stunned many.

But what made this day special wasn’t just the process. It was the growth, grace, and godliness we saw at every step.

Pupils: Learning by Leading

For our learners, this was more than just an election — it was a lesson in:

  • Courage: Stepping forward to lead is never easy. Each candidate showed bravery in sharing their manifesto with peers and teachers alike.

  • Integrity: Election agents conducted the voting with fairness and truth, proving that honesty is not age-bound.

  • Resilience: Not everyone won, but everyone grew. Those who didn’t make it handled the outcome with grace, celebrating their peers and vowing to try again.

  • Voice: Each pupil learned that their vote, their choice, and their presence matter.

“We didn’t just pick leaders — we became a part of something bigger,” said one Grade 6 pupil, proudly.

Teachers: Witnessing Character in Bloom

For the teaching staff, this was a day of profound reflection. Watching children demonstrate discipline, focus, and leadership language reminded us that true learning is never limited to books.

Teachers learned that:

  • Students flourish when trusted with responsibility.

  • Real leadership is taught through opportunity, not just theory.

  • Children, when guided in the right way, can exceed expectations.

One teacher remarked, “It reminded us why we do what we do — not just to teach lessons, but to raise people of impact.”

👨‍👩‍👧 Parents: Seeing Potential in Action

For parents, the election experience — shared through photos, updates, and conversations — opened a new lens into their children’s potential.

They learned that:

  • Every child is a leader when given the right stage.

  • School is more than academics — it’s where values are shaped.

  • Their children can speak, think, choose, and lead — not just tomorrow, but today.

One parent shared, “We saw a different side of our son. He was serious, articulate, and purposeful. We’re so proud.”

🏘️ Community: Building Tomorrow’s Kenya

In a country where future leadership is a constant topic of national interest, this election was a reminder that change begins here — in small classrooms, with young voices and principled action.

We, as a school community, learned that:

  • Schools can shape not only scholars but citizens.

  • True leadership is nurtured, not inherited.

  • Values like honesty, discipline, service, and empathy can — and should — be taught from a young age.

This wasn’t just an election. It was a declaration: We are raising leaders. Leaders who will speak truth, live faithfully, and serve selflessly — because they were trained up in the way they should go.

A Final Word: Proverbs 22:6 in Action

Living Our Mission

“Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.”
This verse isn’t just our guiding scripture — it came to life during the elections.

To our candidates, voters, agents, teachers, and parents:
Thank you for walking the journey of leadership with us. The future looks bright — because it begins here, at Sunrise.
